Raymond Harry Shuck, 78, of Sandwich, IL passed away Monday, January 21, 2002 at Valley West Community Hospital, Sandwich. He was born February 24, 1923 in Sandwich, the son of Edward and Zada (Rumney) Shuck.
    Ray was united in marriage to Sofia Pierannunzi on June 11, 1946 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He was a 1941 graduate of Somonauk Community High School. Ray served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class on the USS Osterhaus and the USS Rooks and in the battle of Iwo Jima. After the service, Ray farmed until 1952 and also worked for the Lyle Hyatt Company. He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Aurora for many years retiring in 1988. He also was Co-owner of the S S Store in Sandwich with wife, Sofia from 1965 to 1985. After his retirement from Caterpillar, he enjoyed wood crafting and attending many local craft shows. Ray was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sandwich and a member of the American Legion Post #181 in Sandwich, where he held many different offices.
    Survivors include his wife, Sofia of Sandwich; three daughters, Marie (David) Paxton of Sandwich, Karen (Ed) Lesser of Elgin and Angela (Steven) Turney of Sandwich; three sisters, Helen Casson of San Jose, CA, Gertrude (Ralph) Wallis of Mission, TX, Joanna (Harold) Clapper of Tomah, WI; three brothers, Ralph (Lucille) Shuck of Seal Beach, CA, Fred (Doris) Shuck of Apache Junction, AZ and Paul (Phyllis) Shuck of Waterman, IL; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Zachery and Abby Turney.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Henry in 1984; two infant sons and a brother, Robert.
    A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sandwich. Fr. Jack T. Heraty will officiate. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Somonauk.
    Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich with a liturgical wake service at 7 p.m.
    Pallbearers will be Steve Turney, Dave Paxton, Paul Shuck, Mark Clapper, Ralph Wallis, Jr. and Ray Casson.
    Memorials may be made in Ray's name to St. Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund.
