Willard J. Bahr of Fargo passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the Sanford Palliative Care Unit in Fargo. He was 87.
A great hunter, fisherman and gardener, Willard was a family man who also enjoyed spending many summers at the family cottage on Crystal Lake near Pelican Rapids, Minn. He spent many hours trapshooting and loading shells, and was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan. He was a hard-working person who cared very much about his children and grandchildren.
Willard was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Edgar, Wis., to Albert and Margaret (Kaser) Bahr. He graduated from Stratford High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, based in Sokchori, Korea.
On April 21, 1951, he married Mary Margaret (Peggy) Walsh in Enderlin, N.D.
He worked for Allis Chalmers, the Railway Mail Service and the Fargo Post Office. He retired in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Kenneth, Wallace and Jimmy, and a sister-in-law, Betty Bahr.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years; two sisters, Mary Ann (Charles) Wallace of Minneapolis and JoAnne Weber of Marshfield, Wis., and one brother, William, of Stratford, Wis.
Also surviving Willard are his three children, Patty (Brian) Scrip of Concord, Calif.; Jeff (Kenna) of Aberdeen, S.D., and Denise (Tom) Kern of Bemidji, Minn.
He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Matthew and Lily Scrip; Benjamin (Anne), Bryan and Brenna Bahr; and Kadie (Mark) Christiansen, Jessica, Jaclyn and Joshua Kern, and many nieces and nephews.
His family will miss him very much
