Jesse Riley "J.R." Flowers, 85, of Mexia passed away December 22, 2010 in Waco. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 24, 2010 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will be in the Mexia Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
J.R. was born September 27, 1925 in Hemphill County to Marion Theodore and Audra Angeline (Curnutt) Flowers. He was a graduate of Mexia High School. J.R. worked for 10 years at Sinclair Shoe Store and later, retired after working 34 years as a salesman for Beene Motor Sales. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Air Force. He loved to help his friends and neighbors with anything they needed, especially any type of carpentry. His hobbies included carpentry (built two homes), fishing and playing tennis, which he did until he was in his 70's. J.R. loved his Lord, family and friends. He was married 64 years to the love of his life, Kathleen Terry Flowers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one niece; and one nephew.
J.R. is survived by his wife, Kathleen Flowers of Mexia; sisters, Dorothy M. Vinson of Mexia and Peggy J. Bozeman and husband, Tom of Coolidge; nieces and nephews, Danny Vinson, Kenneth Kilgore, Diana Smith, Patricia Wilcox, Sandra Park and Harvey Terry; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brett Beene, Kent Kendall, Eddie Plummer, Bobby Fulz, Thomas Blackmon and Randall Bryan. Honorary pallbearer will be Elmer Beene.
