The angels came for longtime Arlington resident Gilbert Leon Striedel on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 .

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, considerations of donations to Community Hospice of Texas at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital ,
817-960-6613, in the memory of Gil, are suggested. Until he retired, Gil worked for Arlington Water Utilities. He was an active member of East Arlington Renewal and Arlington Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. For many years Gil and his wife Billie hosted the National Night Out for their Neighborhood Crime Watch. Gil loved hunting, fishing and the Texas Rangers. Gil was in the Navy, and served his country during World War II . Besides his family, one of the things that Gil was most proud of was coaching teenage baseball for 35 years. Gil loved his boys and continued to tell stories and relive games throughout his life. Gil will always be remembered as a loving, amazing father and grandfather. Gil's work ethics, patience and family devotion remain with each of " PaPa's " family members. Gil was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Billie; parents, Alfred and Lillian Striedel; brother, Leroy Striedel ; and mother-in-law, Leota Gilbert.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Michael Striedel and Patrick Striedel; daughter, Barbara Gair; grandchildren , Aaron Gair, Misty Maloney, Tony Striedel, Erica Striedel; nine great-grandchildren ; one great great-grandson; sister,Adele Striedel; brother, Henry Striedel and wife, Janet; sisters-in-law, Myra Smith and Nadine Bell; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
