Victor (Vic) Lawrence

We bid farewell to our Dad, Victor Rimbey, who passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at the Sutherland Hills Nursing Home in Kelowna, B.C. Vic was predeceased by his wife Georgia in 1968 as well as all of his siblings.
Left to cherish his memories are Beverly Ann (Bryan) and Kenneth Allyn Rimbey (Colleen), B.C., 4 grandchildren: , and 9 great grandchildren. Vic was the seventh son of Mary Jane (Molly) and Samuel Rimbey and was born at the family home in Rimbey, Alberta. He was raised on the family farm just on the outskirts of town along with his 3 brothers: Chester, Leroy and Leslie and 3 sisters, Retha, Marie and Alice. Vic took a correspondence course in Diesel and Gas Maintenance Engineering through National Schools in Los Angeles, California and upon completion of the course travelled to Los Angeles for his practicum. On return he went to work for Adamson and Preston Garage in Rimbey. In May of 1937 Vic and Leslie set out for the Peace River country settling in Dawson Creek, B.C. where they opened a repair shop, Rimbey Brothers. On July 24, 1938 Vic married Georgia Cummings of Forshee, Alberta. Vic went on to purchase three Marshall Wells Stores, the first in Ponoka, Alberta, returning to Dawson Creek, B.C. and then on to Fort St. John, B.C. in 1965 where he remained living until his move to Kelowna in 2000, after enduring many cold winters in the north. Vic moved into a retirement home in Kelowna for the first few years he eventually moved into the Sutherland Hills Nursing Home located in Kelowna. Victor built the first fire engine in Dawson Creek and became the first community Fire Chief. He was also the Chairman of the Dawson Creek School Board for many years. Vic's interests were river boating, fishing, skidooing, dancing and travelling with his fifth wheel to Arizona for the winter months. He was known for his repairing of anything that did not work, but he especially loved repairing river boats and skidoos while reminiscing with his many friends. Vic could make anything work! In respect of Vic's wishes, no funeral service was held. Cremation took place at the First Memorial Services in Kelowna, B.C. Interment will take place at a later date.
