Successful Manhattan tailor who invested heavily in Elizabeth NJ real estate and lived most of his life in that city, but went into Manhattan almost every day of his life right up until the end, mostly to attend the Fulton St. Church.

Member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth. By the end of his life, he was the city's oldest resident. Isaac is alleged to have seen all US presidents except for Hayes.

Son of Mary Coddington and Samuel B. Jaques of Woodbridge, NJ, who commanded a Rahway company in the Revolution and was a step-brother of Col. Moses Martin.

Married 1st to Wealthy Ann Cushman (d. 13 April 1856); children: Jane F. Jaques, Wealthy Ann Jaques, Isaac Jaques, Eleazer Jaques, John Barron Jaques, Samuel Barron Jaques, Walter Madison Smith Jaques, Christopher Prince Jaques, and Dr. Charles Berry Jaques.

2nd wife: Rebecca Robinson who survived him.

His cause of death: "debility" (weakness/infirmity)
