Howard Herbert Wise, 83, Elwood, died Dec. 5, 2004, at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Frankton. He was co-owner of Wise & Yohe Auto Body Shop in Elwood for 12 years. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1983 after 16 years of service and later worked in the Custom Van Shop at Heiser Ford in Elwood.

He was a 1940 graduate of Frankton High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Frances (Jarrell) Wise of Elwood, whom he married Aug. 29, 1948; two daughters, Laura (husband, Richard) Howells of Anderson and Becky (husband, Bill) Wallace of Decatur, Ala.; sister, Rotha Jarrell of Alexandria; three grandchildren, Kevin Johnson of Decatur, Ala., Amber Sheward of Alexandria and Clint Sheward of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert J. and Eva Bernice (Hewitt) Wise; a brother, Jim Wise; and two sisters, Caroline Nichols and Ruth Nick.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Rev. Jerry Hilligoss of Florida Station Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Elwood. The Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5782 will conduct military graveside rites.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
