Lois Jean Reed-Nelson
March 25, 1940 - August 19, 2008
Lois Jean Reed Nelson was born in Wellston, Oklahoma on March 25, 1940 to William Clifford Reed and Earla Mae Davis Reed.
She grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma graduating from Douglass High School. Lois then relocated to San Francisco, California where she attended City College. Lois married James Urschel Nelson and to that union Urschel (Dino) Nelson Jr. was born. Lois went on to further her career. She began working for Bank of America, and then she went on to work for the telephone company. She started her career as a clerk for the postal center, eventually working her way up the ranks as management, receiving many awards and achievements. While working full time Lois furthered her education where she received her Masters and two Bachelors of Science Degrees.
Lois also served as the coordinator for 7 years for the Postal Data Center. Lois received several awards for her outstanding work. Lois also received the Bertha Pitts Campbell award from the S.F. Peninsula Chapter Delta Sigma Theta. Lois worked very hard to provide for her family the only problem Lois had, she could never say no, she helped so many. After retiring from the Post Office after 35 years, she began to travel and enjoy life.
Lois was preceded in death by her late husband, James Urschel Nelson; her father, William Clifford Reed; grandmother, Cora Davis; sister, Sandra K. Reed Chapman.
Lois is survived by her son, Urschel (Dino) Nelson Jr.; mother, Earla Mae Reed Ross; sister, Mary (Dr. Horace) Howard of Lisman, AL; brother, Clifford Reed of San Bernardino, CA, Ronnie Reed of Sacramento, CA; Dean (Stephany) Ray Ross of San Bernardino, CA; four grandchildren, Dominique Julius Nelson, Urschel Demetrius Nelson III, Mercedes Sade Johnson, Dione Chaz Nelson and two great-grandchildren, Little Dominique Nelson Jr. and Araya Rochelle Nelson; a very special longtime friend Leroy Price and a host uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.
