Tony Sansone was once known as the world's most perfect man. He was the first male physique icon and the most admired and photographed bodybuilder of his time. Like his contemporary Rudolph Valentino, Sansone was among the first to make male beauty a desirable commodity. Through innumerable reproductions of his photographs, his fitness program publications, and the three gyms he founded, Sansone set and shaped the physical ideal that a generation of men would follow. The Greek gods were immortal, but Tony Sansone, the Apollo of the Modern Age, was mortal. During the last five years of his life, Sansone suffered from colon cancer. He lingered, exhailing his last faint breath on January 13, 1987. Even today, he retains a position as the most aesthetically complete bodybuilder of the last century. And into this new century he continues to serve as a veritable standard-bearer for masculine muscularity and ideal form. Ask a thousand 'wanna-be' bodybuilders whom they would like to resemble most, and a majority will say they would gladly settle to become a 'Tony Sansone look-alike'!
