Ruth M. Gentry, 83, Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 32, 2001, peacefully at her home.
Services were Friday, Aug. 3, at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit with burial in Buckner Cemetery, Buckner, under the direction of Langsford Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gentry was born on Nov. 17, 1917 in Decatur, AL. Ruth's greatest ambitions in life were to be a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a pillar of strength to all those around her. She succeeded in these goals beyond her wildest dreams. She was independent, full of spunk and she put family first above all else. Her passion in life was to write poems and short stories. She loved gardening and hunting for antique books. She was a person of deep faith and we now have an angel we know by name.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Homer Gentry, in 1991, and by two sisters and one brother.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Orestie) Tucker of the home and Cynthia and Stephen Schwalm of Houston, TX; two brothers, C.W. Martin of Willard and John Martin of Springfield; one sister-Katherine Boeding, Springfield; grandchildren-Candi Smith, Tish and Brian Bennett of Blue Springs, John Schwalm of New York City; great-grandchildren, Adam and Stephanie Bennett, Nathan and Logan Smith all of Blue Springs.
She is also survived by her beloved 17 year old cat, Bootsie, of the home. After the death of her husband in 1991, Bootsie was a great comfort to her.
