On Jan. 2, 1909 railroad porter Michael Donlon, saved Delcina Gauthier, age 8, and her mother Mulvina Gauthier, from an oncoming train. He was struck by the train and died soon afterward. He received the Carnegie Hero Award posthumously.
On May 31, 2009, the A.O.H. of Meriden held a graveside rededication. A Mass in his honor was said at St. Rose of Lima, the church from which he was buried in 1909.
