August Frederick BECCARD was born in the Traugott Frenzel farm home, 11.5-mile NW of Nebraska City, NE near the town of Berlin (later Otoe) NE, on March 8,1880, about 7-1/2 months after his father's death.

His father, a butcher and farmer by trade, had died in July of 1879 while the family was living on their farm south of Nebraska City. His mother, Augusta, and the 3 children, ages 4, 3 and 1, then moved to her parents' home 11.5-miles NW of Nebraska City, a few miles from the town of Berlin, the present-day, Otoe. The next March, he was born there, and then raised for the first 9 years of his life, in the home of his Frenzel grandparents with his aunts Alwine and Ida, and his uncle Herman living there as well. Additionally, they had a boarder, Charles Adelman who worked at a farm nearby, who would later marry his aunt Alwine. They all attended and participated in the life of St. Luke's Lutheran church. The children went to school at Forgeson Dist 81, of the Wyoming Precinct.

His mother then married Henry Hummel on March 1, 1888, and the mother and children moved to his farm home near Paul, NE. This is where he spent the remainder of his childhood, with Henry Hummel as his stepfather, and 6 Hummel children, born into that household.
