Arlene " Ike" Mable Baird AMHERST — Arlene "Ike" Mable Baird (nee: Brill), 87 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a long illness. She was born February 1, 1926 in Brownhelm Township, Ohio. Ike was raised in Amherst until 1947 when she moved to Brownhelm Township. She had made her home in Amherst since 1990. Ike retired from Lorain National Bank where she was an administrative assistant for many years. In her later years, she enjoyed managing the Central Village Apartments in Amherst where she made many friends. Ike was a member of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Stone City Chapter of the Eastern Stars. Ike was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed playing with her many friends. Survivors include her sister Marjorie Neale of St. Augustine, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-six years James P. Baird on June 30, 1983; her sister Donola Weinrich in 1989; and her parents John and Christine Brill (nee: Everett). Graveside services will be Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township. The Rev. Elizabeth Terrill, pastor of Brownhelm Congregational Church will officiate. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ; 2144 North Ridge Road, Vermilion, OH 44089.
