Vicki was born an only child in Dallas, Texas to Vic and Zita Maden. She graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1965, and attended college at Abilene Christian University. She met and married Mike Hughes. Both served several civic and community organizations with a zest for life and friends. In 1970 Vicki gave birth to their only child, a daughter, Merrianne Maden Hughes. The family moved to Mexia in 1970 to begin a life and become well known members of the community. Vicki began working at the Mexia State School, as well as The Mexia Daily News, but then left after a short time to work in her family's jewelry business, Vic Maden Jewelry. At that time she became certified and recognized in the jewelry business, following her fathers footsteps, learning to repair, create and appreciate the fine art of jewelry. In 1995 when Vic and Zita chose to retire, she moved back to Dallas, and began working for the Zales corporation. She was put on the fast track to becoming management in the corporation, and became one of the top ten store managers in the nation. She enjoyed her work, and serving the public. She always had an infectious smile, and a willingness to make people happy. In 1998 Vicki began a battle with cancer that would continue to return over the years. Vicki was a fighter and a survivor. She had faith, and a love for God, being a member of Northcrest Church of Christ and Teague Church of Christ. Her love for people and life made her an incredible mother, and Bubbie. In 2003 her daughter married Ron Briggs. They gave Vicki her first grandchild Victor Dylan Briggs in 2005. While still in Dallas, Her twin grandchildren, Abigail Roxanne Briggs and Jaxon Forrest Briggs were born in 2007. During these years, her parents passed on, and Vicki chose to retire and become a full time Bubbie. Vicki and her family moved back to Mexia to enjoy time together. She lived for her grandchildren, her daughter, her friends and family. Vicki always dreamed of visiting Italy, and in 2009, she made that dream come true. In 2010 the cancer began to take its hold. Vicki fought hard and courageously, never truly complaining, but trying to find the best way to deal with it, treat it and be with her family. She passed on quietly and peacefully at home with her family around her. Vicki will always be remembered as a loving daughter, mother, bubbie and friend. She is survived by her aunt, Jimmie Wilcox of Nashville, TN, her daughter and son-in-law Ron and Merrianne Briggs, her grandchildren, Dylan, Abigail and Jaxon as well as several members of extended family and friends. Visitation with family and friends will be Sunday, August 7th from 4-6pm, and services will be officiated by Robin Wright and held at Blair Stubbs Chapel on Monday August 8th at 10am, followed by graveside at Point Enterprise Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Steve Jackson, Ivan Jackson Jr., Neal Irvin, Jeff Looney, Don Corbitt, Steve Trantham and Brian Trantham.
