Lorene was born on September 22, 1915 in Calhoun City, MS to Perry E. and Clara Abbie Nelms Lunceford. She was a member of Pope Baptist Church, Pope, MS where she taught the Estelle Hubbard Sunday School class for 45 yrs.

Mrs. Daves was a salesperson for Stanley Home Products for over 60 years and she balanced her crocheting hobby between selling appointments. Her selling skills helped pay for her son’s college education.

Mrs. Daves taught school in Calhoun County for 12 years where she taught first grade and she was quoted as saying, “I didn’t like teaching. Back then that was about the only job a woman could have. It was either being a nurse or a school teacher”, therefore she chose to teach. She gave of her time volunteering at Beverly Heath Care /Golden Living Center. She volunteered for 20 years at the nursing home.

In 2005 she was selected as Volunteer of the Year. In 2006 she and Mrs. Mary Ann Fisher were selected as the Mississippi Health Care Association Group Volunteers of the Year. Both ladies said the secret to staying young was something they had been blessed with.
