Maurice "Mo" Arnold (90) died suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Friday, April 26, 2013. He was born March 1, 1923 to Maurice E. and Blanche Arnold of Marysville, Kansas. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1941. After enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943 he served in the Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946 as a radio operator on a B17 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Honorably discharged in Walla Walla, Washington in April, 1946, he returned to Kansas to enroll in the fall semester at Kansas State University. On May 29, 1948 he married Helen Taddicken. In 1949 he graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Geology ("geophysical option"). After graduation he began his long career with AMOCO as a geophysicist. Posted to several locations in Mississippi, Texas, Canada and Colorado, Mo and Helen made many friends who they have enjoyed over the years. In 1957 Mo took graduate courses and worked as a graduated assistant at the University of Colorado in the Geology Department. In 1961 he was assigned to Tulsa as a research geophysicist in the AMOCO lab where he worked until he retired in 1980. The retirement life didn't last long and he spent several years as president and CEO of his own company – "MO Inc." a consulting firm for Geology and Geophysics. In addition to his work, he was active in professional and civic affairs, serving as president of the Tulsa Geophysical Society; member of the Investment Committee of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He also served as president and treasurer of the United Nations Association of the Eastern Oklahoma; treasurer of the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa and the building committee of the Thornton YMCA. Mo remained active in K State activities as vice president and treasurer of Alpha Lota Theta Xi as well as cheering on the football and basketball teams. He and Helen rarely missed a home game or one of the many bowl games. The K State flag proudly flies at their home every game day. Unofficially, he may have the distinction of Kansas State's number 1 fan.
