Gottelieb Kraft.
Died--At his home in this city, Thursday, February 15, 1906, Gottelieb Kraft, aged 67 years and eight days.
The subject of this sketch was born in Germany, Feb. 7, 1839 and came to this country in 1856. On Feb. 19, 1863 he was married to Harriet Susan Hewitt and to them were born eleven children all of whom survive him except Mrs. Fredricka Olson who lost her life in the Galveston flood. Those living are five daughters, Mrs. Florence M. Bright, Mrs. Amanda M. Moore, Mrs. Orpha B. Ruberts, Mrs. Ruby M. Sherman and Mrs. Lottie F. Leffler; and five boys, Robert H., James M[.], George A., Wm. A. and Charles C. In December 1884, Mrs. Kraft died and he was again married in May 1887 to Mrs. Holt. To this union one child was born.
Mr. Kraft until a few years ago followed the vocation of farming. Since he came to town he has been in poor health but his sudden demise was hardly expected at this time. He was found dead Thursday morning and must have succombed [sic] to heart failure while getting ready to build a fire in the kitchen stove. He lived alone and the body was cold when found so he must have been dead some time.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church, Saturday, Feb. 17, 1906, at 1:30 p. m., Elder L. G. Huff officiating.
Burial in LaHarpe cemetery.∼The obituary didn't mention his marriage to Mrs. Serilda (Johnson) Burress, "a widow lady with four children" in 1893. They were divorced in 1896.
The marriage to Mrs. Elizabeth (Nolan) Litteral was also brief. She remarried in 1891.
