James Liggett
James R. Liggett, 69, of Alexis, Ill., died at 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.
Born May 3, 1937, in Alexis, he was the son of Rollin and Ona Rountree Liggett. He married Ann Higgins; they later divorced.
Mr. Liggett worked as a merchandiser for Montgomery Ward in Chicago and New York City from 1963 to 1991.
He was reared and educated in Alexis and was a graduate of Alexis High School. He was a member of Alexis United Presbyterian Church. He served with the Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He enjoyed daily acrostics and the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. He enjoyed daily walking and his seven cats. He had been on disability from Montgomery Ward since 1991.
Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Ann Sharpe of LaHarpe, Ill.; three grandchildren; and one niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation will be Monday and before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Ill. There will be no family visitation.
The funeral for Mr. Liggett will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phil Cooper officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for Alexis United Presbyterian Church.
