DURHAM – Billie Jean Nelson Jennings of Durham passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Guilford County, Mrs. Jennings was the daughter of the late William Nelson and Mary Pickard Nelson. Billie Jean was educated in Durham city schools and graduated from Durham High School. She was the former Public Relations Director for the Durham Merchants Association and Executive Coordinator for Keep American Beautiful.
Mrs. Jennings is survived by her husband, Joseph Leroy Jennings; son, William Joseph Jennings and wife Stephanie; grandchildren, Joshua Jennings and Mitchell Jennings; sister, Claire Bradsher and husband Charles; and nephews, Charles Bradsher Jr. and wife Nadine, David Bradsher and Scott Bradsher.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Clements Funeral Chapel, Durham, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lisa Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mebane. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
