Russian ballet dancer and an ballet teacher. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1968). He studied at a private school of Nicholas Legat, where his partner was Vera Volkova, then in Petrograd Theater School (teacher Vladimir Ponomarev). From 1925, working in the Kirov Theatre. As a young dancer, he began his teaching career and became an outstanding teacher of male classical dance of the Leningrad Choreographic School (1932-1970). As a teacher and mentor he trained a galaxy of world stars of ballet dancers, such as Askold Makarov, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Yuri Soloviev, Sergei Vikulov, Oleg Vinogradov.
