She was a daughter of Mims L. and Rosalee Jones Horner.
Mrs. Gilbert worked as a cook at Fort Cherry High School for 15 years before retiring in 1978. She loved baking, cooking and canning and liked spending time with family during the holidays. She was a member of the McDonald Women's Club and McDonald Garden Club.
On January 15, 1934, she married John B. Gilbert in Wellsburg, W.Va.
Surviving were a daughter, Donna J. (Bob) Ralston of McDonald; nine grandchildren, Debbie Baldigowski, Paul Demnyan, Shari Wagner, Lori Kargle, Shelley Douglass, Bob Ralston, Roxanne Baxter, Marsha Seater and John Gilbert; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were two daughters, Lena Demnyan and Linda Reese; a son, John G. "Punk" Gilbert; four brothers, Henry, Earl, Homer and Howard Horner; and four sisters, Edna Yeager, Nettie McVicker, Pearl Hayes and Marie Worstel.
