MILLERSBURG - Robert E. "Tuffy" Lenker, 84, of 318 Johnson Street died April 27, 2013, at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Harrisburg, PA.
The son of the late Marion E. Lenker and Ferle M. Lenker, he was a graduate of Millersburg High School, Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts, Brown University with a degree in Economics, the Monterey, California U. S. Army Russian Language School and various Banking and Trust schools at Bucknell University and Penn State University.
A well-known athlete, he was a Brown University football teammate of Joe Paterno and a member of Brown's baseball team. He played sandlot baseball in Central Pennsylvania, football, baseball and basketball in high school and at Mount Hermon as well as playing the trumpet in their musical groups. He enjoyed fishing in Pennsylvania and Florida.
He served over three years in the Army Security Agency with service in the Far East during the Korean Conflict before being Honorably Discharged in 1954.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; Susquehanna Lodge 364 F & AM; American Legion Post 326; Millersburg Boating Club and Ferryboat Association; AARP and the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art. In earlier years, Rotary President, Borough Secretary, School Board member, Dauphin County Hospital Authority member and had been active in civic and church groups.
He had been the owner Keystone Broom Works; Deputy Executive Director of the Pennsylvania General State Authority, the Pennsylvania Highway and Bridge Authority and the Pennsylvania Transportation Assistance Authority; Associate Vice-President for Finance at Temple University; Executive Vice-President and Regional Board Chairman with Community Banks, Inc. and an executive officer in various Temple and Community Banks, Inc. subsidiaries.
Surviving are his wife, Victoria E. Lenker, a son, Jarrett L. Lenker, and one beloved grandson, Jaxon. He was the widower of the former Hermine Richter Lenker.
Services will be held at the 11:00 AM, May 1, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Millersburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church 356 Union St. Millersburg, PA 17061 or to the Millersburg Ferryboat Association PO Box 93 Millersburg.
