Widow of Rev Lawrence WASHINGTON, M.A., Rector of Purleigh, 1632-1643, in which year he was deprived of this living by the Parliament, probably for his pro-Royalist and anti-Puritan stance.
Amphyllis was baptised at Spratton, County Northampton, 2 Feb 1601, 4th daughter of John TWIGDEN (died 1610) of Little Creaton, parish of Spratton, by his wife Anne DICKENS (died at Tring, 1657, having marr 2ndly, Andrew KNOWLING of Tring).
Amphyllis was married at Spratton, 1 Dec 1633; her goods & chattels were the subject of Letters of Administration, dated 8 Feb 1655-56 [P.C.C.], to her "...natural and lawful son" John WASHINGTON.
