John Mark Brubaker, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Atascadero Bible Church. The Rev. Charles Rickel will officiate. Mr. Brubaker was born Aug. 19, 1911, in Elstonville, Pa. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Benjamin S. and Amelia Ginder Brubaker. The family moved to Grantham, Pa., when Mr. Brubaker was very young. He attended Center Square School, a one-room school, for eight years. He passed the county exams when he was 14 and began his life-long career in printing; he operated printing presses and engravers for 60 years in Harrisburg, Pa., Ontario and Pomona. He married Florence Hoover on June 12, 1936, at her parent's home in Union, Ohio. The couple lived in Grantham for 10 years before they moved to Upland in 1946. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Brubaker traveled extensively and eventually settled in San Luis Obispo County. Mr. Brubaker was a lifelong member of the Brethren in Christ Church. Mr. Brubaker is survived by his wife Florence of Atascadero; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles Rickel of Weatherford, Okla., Sara and Nolan Nelson of Atascadero, and Mary and Chuck Ripple of Las Vegas, Nev.
