John Quinton Wilkes, 53, of 302 Durden Street here, died Monday morning in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Dublin, after a brief illness. A native of Toombs County, he had resided in Houston, Texas for the past 25 years, returning to Vidalia one week ago. He was a veteran of World War II, a salesman and a member of Center Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Center Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. George B. Coursey, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were: Tom McDonald, Maloy Polk, Vernon Poole, Gene Cannady, L.C. Towns, and John McDonald.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alice V. Wilkes of Houston, Texas; one step-son, Eric Stephens, Houston; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Wilkins of Vidalia; one sister, Mrs. Wynell Scott of Jesup; two brothers, W.T. Wilkes of Vidalia, and John O. Wilkes of Palestine, Texas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
