Mrs. Mary Ethel Merritt, age 90 of Rose Hill, NC, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace, NC conducted by the Rev Ricky Wood. The family will receive visitors following the services. Burial will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC.
She is survived by five daughters, Nancy Batts of Rose Hill, NC, Brenda Johnson and husband L. F. of Rose Hill, NC, Frances Merritt of Rose Hill, NC, Peggy Merritt of Rose Hill, NC and Wendy Batts and husband Terry of Rose Hill, NC, three granddaughters, Tonya Merritt of Rose Hill, NC, Angie Stroud and husband Parrish of Rose Hill, NC and Rhonda Newmons and husband James of Rose Hill, NC, one grandson, Jerry Usher, Jr. of Rose Hill, NC, three great grandchildren, Trenton Jackson of Rose Hill, NC, Riley Stroud of Rose Hill, NC and Karley Stroud of Rose Hill, NC, two sisters-in-law, Virginia Tew of Clinton, NC and Beatrice Tew of Richlands, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born on September 19, 1925 in Duplin County, NC to the late Alton Tate and Cora Lee Collins Tew and was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Merritt and four brothers, Alton Tate Tew, Jr., Brady Tew, Lynwood Savage and Mark Savage.
Casketbearers will be Buck Sholar, Harry Sholar, Harvey Sholar, Butch Sholar, Steve Jones and David Jones.
