Williamsport - EDGAR LEE SUTTON, SR., of Indian Cottage Road in Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Homewood Nursing Home in Williamsport. Born June 28, 1922, in Elon, N.C., he was the son of the late John William and Lydia Loy Sutton.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Waters Sutton, on June 27, 1967; and by his second wife, Barbara Lee Hill Sutton, who died on Aug. 29, 2002.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in Europe during the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps' 492nd Fighter Squadron. He was employed by Beachley Furniture Co., retiring in 1988 after 42 years of service. He also operated a furniture upholstery business for many years. As a past member of Hagerstown Bible Church, he served as a deacon, a trustee and the chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also was an active member of Grace Bible Church in Greencastle, Pa., where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his loving children, Edgar L. Sutton Jr. of Gaithersburg, Md., Jeanne L. Myers of Clear Spring, Md., and Joe L. Sutton of Big Pool, Md.; stepchildren, Richard Roche of Mercersburg, Pa., and Heather Yamamura of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Ricky and Robin Myers of Clear Spring, and William and Michael Sutton of Gaithersburg. He also is survived by three sisters, Alma Kernodle, Ruby Freshwater and Pauline Tatum, all of North Carolina; one brother, Melvin Sutton of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Boyd Sutton, who passed away on June 3, 2003.

Funeral services were held at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown; burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery.
