Stephen Russell Booth

Stephen Russell Booth, 92, of Concord, went to be with his Lord Saturday, April 27, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Campbell County, February 24, 1921, a son of the late George Marvin Booth and Katie Thompson Booth.

Russell was a farmer for much of his life and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Specifically he served with the 2nd Division, Company K, 9th Infantry Regiment, overseas through Northern Ireland, England and France. For his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. Russell was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church for the past 55 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alma Nash Booth; one brother, John E. Booth; and two sisters, Virginia B. Coffee and Lura B. Carwile.

He is survived by one daughter, Doris Booth Thompson and her husband, Tommy, of Hopewell; two brothers, George M. Booth Jr., Clarence A. Booth and Gladys B. Patterson, all of Lynchburg; one granddaughter, Diane Marie Bryant and her husband, Forrest, of Madison Heights; one grandson, David Wayne Austin and his wife, Theresa, of Spout Spring; and five great grandchildren, Kaity Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Stephanie Bryant, Chad Bryant and Logan Austin.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
