Betsy was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Mt. Holly, N.C., to W.A. and Sara Pardue (both now deceased), but was raised in South Carolina. She came to Bristol to live with relatives, Joe and Mary Leslie in 1947. Betsy graduated from Tennessee High School and Virginia Intermont College.
The late John Hay was instrumental in Betsy's becoming involved with a group seeking to secure elderly housing in Kingsport. That group turned into HOPE, Inc. which joined with the Kiwanis Club to build Kiwanis Towers, where she served on the original Board of Directors. John's wife, Elizabeth Ann, was the local organizer five years ago when Betsy's children decided to build a Habitat House in honor of her 50 years of marriage to Roscoe.
Betsy was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 53 years. She worked beside her husband in public accounting for over 25 years.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Roscoe Harrison; five children and their families, Joyce Harrison, Kennesaw, Ga., Judi Ruprecht, Robert, Daniel and Elizabeth, Roswell, Ga., Bill and Vikki Harrison, Matthew and Drew, Birmingham, Ala., Paul and Martha Harrison, Michelle, Jonathan, David, Peter, and Rachel, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mark and Kimberly Harrison, Luke, Joanna and Grace, Woodstock, Ga.; and a brother, Bill Pardue and wife, Pat of Greenville, S.C.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Cagle officiating.
