J Calvin Meyer was born in Haines Township on Jan 32, 1861. He was the youngest of 6 children. When he was 4 years old his father moved to Aaronsburg to engage in the mercantile business. Calvin attended the public schools. In 1878 he entered Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster. He graduated in 1881 as Valedictorian. In July of 1881 he was elected assistant principal of the public schools of Bellefonte. In 1884 he began the study of law & was admitted to the bar. He served as the Democratic Committe for a year. He was also elected as District Attorney. On the 20th of May 1887 he married Miss Lizzie H McCalmont, they had one child Edna.
