Rev. John Hamon/Hammon Smith was born in Russell Co., VA the son of Rev. John and Frances Hamon Smith who settled in Jackson Co. VA(WV) prior to the 1850 census of that county. The elder Rev. John Smith was a master blacksmith by trade and a Baptist minister.
Rev. John H. Smith and Miss Lyddia Jane Rhodes were married in Jackson Co., VA(WV) on 25 Dec 1860 by his father, the Rev. John Smith.
John and Lyddia aka Lydda/Lettie/Letta, were parents of Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Averill, John Mathias, Thirza Jane and Ireana C. After Lyddia'a death in 1875 John married Miss Victoria Jane Hackney of Scott Co., VA.
Victoria was the daughter of Archibald M. and Elizabeth Hackney. John & Victoria were parents of David William, Samuel James, Joseph Elijah, Frederick Esau, Perry Richard, Arthur Archibald, Virgil Lee & Stella Virginia, found in the Harper Dist. of Roane Co.
After Victoria's death in 1896, John H. Smith married the widow Mary Ann Raines-Shafer in 1901.
John Hamon Smith died at Vicars, WV age 81y11m12d.
