Eva Diane Hampton York is in the 1900 federal census as Eva D. Hampton. She and her family were enumerated on June 19, 1900, while living in Justice Precinct #2 in Upshur County, Texas. The head of the household was listed as Alfred T. Hampton. He was then 51 years old, having been born in December 1848 in Ireland. His father was born in Scotland and his mother in Ireland. He emigrated to the United States in 1867 and he thereafter became a naturalized citizen. He was employed as a stockman. He owned his farm free and clear of any mortgage. He was married to Christina Hampton and they had been married for eight years. Christina was 28 years old, having been born in March 1872 in Illinois. Her father was born in Ohio and her mother in Indiana. She had given birth to four children and they were all alive at the time of the census. The four children were in the home. They were Eva D., Mary J., John T., and Alfred. Eva was 6 years old, having been born in January 1894 in Illinois. Mary J. was 4 years old, having been born in October 1895 in Texas. John T. was 2 years old, having been born in September 1897 in Texas. Alfred was 1 year old, having been born in April 1899 in Texas.

Eva Diane Hampton married Blewford Emery York in or about November 1909 in an unknown state, but it is likely in Texas. And, if not in Texas, then perhaps in Oklahoma. (Blewford York registered for the draft in World War I and World War II as Blewford Emery York. In the World War I and World War II draft registrations, he gave his place of birth as Itasca, Texas.)

Eva is in the 1910 federal census as Eva D. York. She and her husband Blewford E. York were enumerated on April 27, 1910, while living in a rooming house at 606 West Grand Avenue in Oklahoma City, in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. The head of the household was listed as Blewford E. York. He was 19 years old, having been born in Tennessee in or about 1891. (It is likely that Eva gave Blewford's state of birth as Tennessee because she did not know that he had been born in Texas.) His parents were also listed as being born in Tennessee. He was employed as a laborer doing odd jobs. He was renting the room in which he and Eva lived. He was married to Eva and they had been married for 7 months at the time of the census. Eva was listed as being 16 years old, having been born in Missouri in or about 1864. Her father was born in the English-speaking portion of Ireland and her mother was born in Illinois. She was not employed outside the home and she had not attended school the previous year.

Eva and Blewford moved to Oregon shortly after the 1910 federal census and before their first son was born on March 16, 1911.

Blewford E. York is in the 1911 Eugene, OR, city directory. He is listed as a labor for "Hurd Lbr & Nav Co." This company must have been a large one because of the number of people who were listed as employees in the directory. No wives were listed in this directory.

Eva gave birth to Alfred Emory (Emery?) York on March 16, 1911, while she and her husband were living in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. (Blewford's state of birth was listed in the birth certificate as Texas.)

Blewford York is in the 1912 Eugene, OR, city directory. He is listed as a laborer, with a resident at "576 High." No wives were listed in this directory.

Eva and Blewford moved to California shortly after the birth of their son and it was likely in 1912. (See the death certificate for Eva York.)

Blewford E. York is in the 1913 Oakland, CA, city directory. He was listed as living at "482 25th" and employed as a stableman. No wives were listed in this directory.

There is an Eva D. York in the 1916 Oakland, CA, city directory. She was a manager, with a business address of "809 27th." She is the only Eva D. York in any Oakland city directories during this time. Blewford E. York is not listed in this directory. He may have been seeking employment in Stockton.

Eva gave birth to Ernest William York on February 15, 1917, while she and her husband were living in San Joaquin County, California. (The California Birth Index has him listed as Earnest York and his date of birth as February 16, 1917.)

Blewford Emery York registered for the draft during World War I on June 5, 1917. At that time, he was living with his wife and two children at 532 South Stanislaus Street in Stockton, California. He was born on April 25, 1891, in Itasca, Texas. He was then working as a blacksmith for the Holt Manufacturing Company in Stockton. He was listed as being tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. He had no visible defects that would prevent him from serving in the military.

Eva is in the 1920 federal census as Eva D. York. She and her family were enumerated on January 16, 1920, while living at 822 Fourth Street in Precinct 3 in the city of Stockton, San Joaquin County, California. She and her husband Blewford E. York owned the home in which they lived free and clear of any mortgage. Eva was 26 years old, married, and a native of Missouri. She listed her father as being a native of England and her mother as a native of Illinois. Eva would have been visibly pregnant (8 months?) with her third child, whom she and Blewford name Jesse after he was born. Blewford was 29 years old and a native of Tennessee. His parents were also born in Tennessee. He was employed as a mechanic in a brick factory. There were two children in the home. They were "Alfrede" (sic, Alfred), who was 8 years old and a native of Oregon, and Ernest, who was 2 years and 11 months old and a native of California.

Eva gave birth to Jesse York on February 11, 1920, while she and her husband were living in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California. (Jesse died on December 19, 1920, in Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma.

Eva, unfortunately, did not live to see any of her children grow into adults. She died at her home, located at 822 E. 4th Street, Stockton, California, on February 23, 1920. She had developed bronchi pneumonia several days before her death and it was the primary cause of her death. She had been attended by Dr. E. A. Arthur since the birth of her son Jesse on February 11, 1920. Eva was 26 years old, 1 month, and 15 days old when she died. She was buried in the Stockton Rural Cemetery on February 25, 1920, with the funeral home of Pope and Smith of Stockton handling the burial arrangements.

I will be forever grateful to Eual Blansett for all his help with Eva !!
