Growing up and receiving her education in Stratton, Patsy graduated from high school in 1950. In 1951 she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where she worked at Sidles Auto Parts as a bookkeeper. In 1952 she was united in marriage to Elmer Matthews at the United Methodist Church and to this union Ruthe and Kim were born.
Being a "stay at home mom", Patsy enjoyed looking after her family. She was known for being a great cook and enjoyed decorating cakes for all occasions for her family and friends. For many years she was a Girl Scout leader.
Working on her computer researching genealogy was a favorite pastime and while driving through the country she would often stop to take photos of interesting barns. Patsy was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church and was proud that on October 15, 1995, she was baptized at Grand Lake of Cherokees near Afton, Oklahoma.
Preceding Patsy in death were her parents; husband, Elmer in 1989; and nephew, Jimmy Baker.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ruthe and Raymond Grote of Fremont, Nebraska and Kim and Rick Malcom of Randolph, Iowa; and a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Dorothy Baker of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Also surviving are brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Don and Audrey Matthews of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Jim and Charlotte Matthews of Arlington, Nebraska; grandchildren, Captain Jennifer Kuhns of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Matthew Grote of Omaha, Nebraska, Rachel Grote of Fremont, Nebraska and Evan Malcom of Randolph; plus other relatives and friends.
