MISHAWAKA - Dean Chizum, 86, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2013, in his home. Dean was born November 30, 1926 in Fulton County, Indiana, a son of the late George and Mabel (Holler) Chizum. He grew up in Fulton County and moved to Mishawaka after high school. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II.

Dean married M. Pauline McDonald in Mishawaka on May 11, 1945. The couple made Mishawaka their home. Dean was a self employed plumber for over 60 years. He dearly loved his work and the business was known as Chizum Plumbing. Dean attended Gospel Center Missionary Church in South Bend. He was a long time member of the Mishawaka Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking.

Dean's surviving family includes his wife of nearly 68 years, Pauline; two sons, Dennis (Janis) Chizum of Mishawaka and Terry (Donna) Chizum of Virginia; a daughter, Linda Chizum of South Carolina; a brother, Lee (Louella) Chizum of South Bend; a sister, Clara (Bill) James of Florida; six grandchildren, Tanett (Jeff) Hodge, Gary (Jennifer) Chizum, Eric (Dedra) Chizum, Brandon (Molly) Chizum, Ryan (Kayla) Chizum and Jessica Vick; and seven great-granddaughters.

Dean was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, William and Marion Chizum; and a sister, Anna.

Friends may spend time with Dean's family Sunday from 3 - 6 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Services honoring Dean's life will be held Monday at 11 am in the funeral home, with Pastor Don Francis and Pastor Lance Nothstine officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mishawaka Lions Club. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
