Corey Rene' Melebeck

Abbeville- A Mass and Christian burial will be held for Corey Rene' Melebeck, 23 years old of Abbeville, Louisiana, who lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Corey was born January 4, 1989, the first-born son to Francis Keith and Beth Broussard Melebeck. Corey had one brother, Aaron Keith Melebeck, whom he treasured and had a close relationship with.

Corey attended Mount Carmel Elementary and graduated Vermilion Catholic High School in 2008. It was during these school years he enjoyed and participated in football, baseball and cross country. He received All Parish and All District awards as pitcher while playing baseball for the Eagles. Corey was also an altar server for St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church for eight years. After his high school years, he enrolled at South Louisiana Community College for four semesters while working towards a degree in Agriculture. Corey wanted to be a rice farmer.

Corey was known and loved by his friends for his hardworking, honest and faith-filled personality. He was an icon of friendship. He absolutely loved hunting, fishing, boating, working cattle, bailing hay, horseback riding, hanging with his friends and family, his brother, Aaron, his Labrador Retriever, Rufus, and Quarter Horse, Izzy. Among his loves, was his girlfriend of five years, Bethany Broussard of Abbeville. He also leaves behind a multitude of close friends and family members.

Corey's paternal grandparents are Dorothy "Chank" Melebeck and the late Francis "Frank" Melebeck. His maternal grandparents are the late Lynn Moresi Broussard and Rene' Sidney Broussard. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Rene' Broussard, Jr.

Services for Corey will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1 o'clock P.M. Officiants will be Fr. William Blanda, Fr. Scott Desormeaux, Fr. Danny Picard, Fr. Kevin Bordelon and Fr. Donald Theriot. Altar servers will be Aaron Melebeck and John McLain. Pallbearers include Charley "Chase" Steen, IV, Clifton Moss, Corbet "Chip" LeBouef IV, Cody Kirkpatrick, Hunter Trahan and Trey Derouen. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrien Broussard, Nicholas Vigneaux, Tyler Broussard, Henry Hank Moss and Johnny Boudreaux. Gift bearers will be Nancy Vigneaux and Angelle Broussard. Readers will be Debi Steen, Sidney Steen, Mike Broussard and Trey Coon.

Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles Street, Abbeville, Louisiana, on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00P.M. A rosary will be recited on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Corey will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been set up at Bank of Erath, Abbeville Branch in Corey's name and proceeds from the fund will be used to provide a scholarship.

Corey's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone for the prayers, support, guidance and love shown to them during this most difficult time.
