Nettie Anna Aksamit was born June 19, 1875 in Crete. In 1867 her parents, Vaclav Aksamit and Anna Tichy Aksamit, shortly after their marriage, came to America from Czechoslovakia and settled in Saline County on a homestead south of Crete. Later they moved to Crete where Nettie was born. Educated in the Crete Public Schools she graduated in 1892. In 1894 she received her diploma from the Peru State Normal. Then she attended Doane College, graduating in 1898. After teaching a number of years in the grades at Clarkson, she took up stenography. Later because of illness, she gave up this work. When she regained her health, she again took up teaching and taught several years in the high school at Prague.
Again she was compelled to give up active work until her health improved; after which for several years she did substitute teaching in the Crete High School. During these years she also taught evening naturalization classes and also became very active in church work and in organizations to which she belonged.
For many years she had enjoyed working in her garden, raising both flowers and vegetables. Many were the admirers who stopped to view her many beautiful flowers.
For the past two months she had been ill at the home of her sister in Omaha where she died on January 30.
Besides her parents, three sisters, Anna Milada, Mrs. Augusta Vesely, and Mrs. Emily Folda preceded her in death.
Two sisters and two brothers mourn her loss, Agnes R. Aksamit, Ed F. Aksamit, and Frank J. Aksamit of Crete, and Mrs. Arline A. Vrana of Omaha.
