Mary Jane Deignan, 83, Lake Geneva, formerly of Kenosha, died peacefully following a short illness on April 12, 2006, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie.

The former Mary Jane Ramsey was born July 23, 1922, in Madison, the daughter of the late Meena and Edith Johnson Ramsey. She lived many years in Kenosha, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1940. She worked in Kenosha as a bookkeeper for Kenosha Lumber Company and Ray Radigan's Restaurant.

Mary Jane married J. Werner Deignan Dec. 27, 1975, in Lake Geneva; he preceded her in death on June 23, 1989.

After moving to Lake Geneva, she became an active member of the community. As a local watercolor artist, she displayed her paintings in many of the local art shows and exhibits, as well as in the offices of Deignan and Associates, her husband's business. She served as president of the Lake Geneva Lioness Club, as well as the Geneva Lake Art Association. In recent years, she especially enjoyed playing bridge with her many cherished "bridge buddies." She also was a member of the Mary D. Bradford Alumni Association.

She is survived by her children, Joan (Louis) Poole, Woodland, Calif., Terry (Mary) Tower, Paris, Susan (Bob) Pool, Savannah, Ga., Daniel (Marcia) Deignan, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Deanna (Norman) Twain, New York, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Chris, Leigh, Todd, Tracy, Tara, Tim, Troy, Laura, Scott, Dena, Erin, Brian, Julie and Josh; and 15 greatgrandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was said Monday, April 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 148 Main St., Lake Geneva. The Rev. Terry Huebner officiated. As an avid reader, Mary Jane would have appreciated memorial donations in her name to the Barrett Memorial Library, 65 W. Geneva St., Williams Bay, WI 53191. Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
