LOCAL POSTMASTER PASSES AWAY

John L. Cunningham Dies at St. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday Night

John L. Cunningham, local postmaster for the past sixteen years, passed away at St. Joseph's hospital at 9:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 19th after a lingering illness.

He was born in Beaver Dam on May 3, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Cunningham and received his education in the public and High School of this city, graduating with the class of 1910. On August 31, 1936 he was married to Jean Tracy of this city.

Surviving him are his widow and one son James, and four brothers, Ira of Milwaukee, Reuben of Atlanta, Georgia, Emmett of Beaver Dam and Leonard of Macon, Georgia.

He served as alderman of the Seventh ward from 1926 to 1928 and was president of the common council during part of his term. He was a past commander of the John E. Miller Post of the American Legion, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's church and the Dodge County and National Association of Postmasters.

Prior to 1936 he was employed with the Western Malleable Co., and Wisconsin Power and Light Co. before becoming postmaster.

He served in World War I with the mobile ordnance branch and was honorably discharged from service at Camp Grant On June 3, 1919.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning ay 9:00 a.m., from St. Patrick's church with the Rev. William E. Wright officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
