Confederate Civil War Soldier. When the Civil War began, Taylor volunteered to serve in the Confederate Army and enlisted with the 44th Tennessee Infantry.

He was mustered into Company B as a Sergeant. Taylor fought with his regiment at the Battle of Shiloh in April of 1862 where he was wounded and captured by the Union forces. He was taken as a prisoner-of-war and sent to a military hospital at Camp Dennison near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Taylor died three weeks later. His grave was removed from Waldschmidt Cemetery at Camp Dennison, Ohio to Spring Grove Cemetery on July 4, 1869.
