Hollywood Makeup Artist. He was also known as Bob Schiffer. His first film was "The Last Days of Pompeii" in 1935. He became a specialist in women's makeup working with stars like Rita Hayworth, Joan Crawford, Ingrid Bergman, Cary Grant, Errol Flynn, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Burt Lancaster, and Daryl Hannah. He has several hundred film credits including "A Night at the Opera," "The Wizard of Oz," The Magnificient Ambersons," "Gilda," "The Lady from Shanghai," "An American in Paris," "Gigi," "Judgment at Nuremberg," "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?," "My Fair Lady," Something Wicked This Way Comes," "The Shaggy D.A.," "The Birdman of Alcatraz," and "Splash." In "Birdman of Alcatraz," he helped transform Burt Lancaster from 18 to 80 years old. He helped the government by creating disguises for espionage and law enforcement agencies during World War II and the Bay of Pigs invasion by making American operatives look more Cuban. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 from the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild for seven decades. He retired in 2001 as head of the makeup department at Disney since 1968.
