A life long resident of Willow Springs, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, April 2, 2009, while at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains. Born on Aug. 22, 1951, in rural Howell County, Mo., to James Roy and Delores (Leininger) Wheatley, she was 57 years old. Mrs. Shanks was raised in the Willow Springs area where she has lived her entire life. Her family said that she was a warm and caring person who never met a stranger. She had many enjoyments in her life; however, her greatest joy and love came from her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, one niece and one nephew. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Shanks of Willow Springs; her daughters, Heather Shanks of Willow Springs and Stacy Murdy of Cabool; and five grandchildren, Kacie, Kailey and Kyra Shanks, and Kyle and Dayton Murdy. She is further survived by her sisters, Sonja Brown and her husband Glenn, Elsa Conway and her husband Donald, and one brother, James Wheatley, all of Willow Springs. Funeral services were Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Bethel Community Church, located on Highway 76 in Willow Springs. Burial followed Monday's service at the Dry Creek Cemetery in Willow Springs. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
