L. Strand dies after car mishap
Algona – Lauritz C. Strand, 69, formerly of Algona, a filling station operator at Wesley, died of injuries Wednesday [June 27, 1962] night following a one-car accident.

Strand was returning to Wesley from Algona at 8:15 p.m. On a gravel road 2 ½ miles southwest of Wesley, he lost control of the car, went into the ditch and rolled several time.

Arthur Ricke who lives near the scene, saw the accident and called authorizes.

Strand was taken to the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Bitt, where he died three hours later. The car was demolished, according to Highway Patrolman Charles R. Bird, Algona, and Dick Pederson, Swea City, who investigated the accident.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon with burial in Wallingford, Iowa. Arrangements are incomplete at the Blake Funeral Home.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Larry Flynn, Redwood Falls, Minn.; two sons, Nordeen, Marshalltown; Calvin, Minneapolis; five grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Magnus Wolden, St. James, Minn. Iowa Man, 69, Killed in Crash
Wesley – An elderly Wesley man was fatally injured Wednesday night when his car apparently went out of control and careened off a gravel road near here.

The victim was Lauritz Christian Strand, 69. Authorities said he died about two hours after the crash, which occurred on a county road about 2 ½ miles southwest of here.

Killed in Car Accident
Lauritz C. Strand, 69, of Wesley, formerly of Wallingford, was killed Wednesday night as the result of a one-car accident on a gravel road near Wesley. He had operated a service station at Wesley prior to his death.

He was the son of Rev. and Mrs. S. Strand and the family farm is located about a mile east of Wallingford.

Services at Wesley will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lutheran Free Church and graveside rites will be held at Wallingford at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Norbert L. Jolivette to officiate.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Phyllis) Flynn of Granite Falls, Minn.; and sons, Nordein of Marshalltown and Calvin of Minneapolis. Six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. J.M. Wolden of St. James, Minn., also survive. Mrs. Flynn taught school here in the Estherville elementary school in 1944-46. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 29, 1962)
