Everett was born on June 28, 1928 on a family farm near Virgil, South Dakota. At the age of seven, Everett moved with his family to Storm Lake, where he attended school, graduating in May 1946.

During his high school years, Everett became interested in flying so he worked at the Storm Lake Airport cleaning planes in exchange for lessons. In 1950, he received his pilot license logging many hours and renewed his license for many years.

On September 5, 1948, Everett married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean "Susie" Breecher at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in September this year. To this union, two children were born, Michael Dean and Sharon Kay.

By this time, Everett was working with his father, Otto, and brother, Paul, in the construction business, building many houses (including one for his family on Lochedem Drive) and farm buildings.

In 1952, Everett attended the Iowa Highway Patrol School at Camp Dodge in Johnston. He was stationed in Hampton, Iowa, where the family lived while he was employed with the Patrol. However, the construction business was his passion and for the rest of his working years, he was a very dedicated carpenter with his own business, E.H. Levan Construction, until retiring in 1993.

Until his health failed, Everett was an active member at the First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for a number of years, served as a deacon, and was on the Trustee Board. Everett also helped where needed with repairs at the church.

Everett was a quiet, humble man who loved his home, garden, and fish pond and was committed to his family. You could always find him in the backyard, planting something new.

Everett really enjoyed watching his grandson, Jason, race his stock car for many years and loved watching his granddaughter, Michelle, play sports. He also enjoyed making toy boxes for his three great-grandsons and wood projects for the family.

Preceding Everett in death were his parents, Otto and Pearl Levan; son, Michael Dean; brother, Paul; sister, Ruby Tyson and husband, Charles; and brother-in-law, Milton Phillips.
