Jacob Thomas Murphy

April 13, 1990 - Feb. 14, 2005

Jake Murphy, beloved son, grandson, nephew and friend to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, the result of a tragic accident. For Jake, there were never enough hours in the day to do all of the things he wanted to do. Number one on his list was motorcycle riding with his friends or even just by himself after school. He cherished his 2004 Honda CRF 250R and took pride in how he maintained it on a daily basis. He dreamed of racing, and we were trying to make that happen in March.

Hunting quail (or anything he could shoot) with his buddy, Dallas Joyner, ranked right up there with his bike riding. Jake and Dallas would have contests to see who could get their limit first. Of course, neither one cared, as long as they had something to bring home or give to neighbors.

Jake was also active in Boy Scouts and spent summers at Camp Whitsett working at the waterfront teaching swimming, rowing, and canoeing. Those summers were special because his dad also worked there as a camp commissioner. We truly believe these times were instrumental in his character building, and that he was learning life skills that would carry him far. His future was bright, as bright as the shining star that he remains.

Funny, goofy, compassionate, polite, easy-going, well-rounded and kind-hearted-- these are just a few of the adjectives that describe Jake. As the saying goes,"He never met a stranger." If you were his friend, you were his friend forever. He is not easy to forget, especially if you looked into his incredible blue eyes; just ask the girls!

We were so blessed to have such a wonderful son. His teachers and hundreds of friends have already felt his loss. However, it is his family that feels the most pain, but we know that he is in a better place, riding his bike with the angels and looking for those elusive quail.

The biggest gift Jake has given, even after his death, is the gift of life. His heart, kidneys, and lungs are helping others to have a quality life, and that brings us much solace.

Jake is survived by his mom and dad, Janet and Bob Murphy of Wofford Heights; his grandparents, Jane and Jerry Kleindienst of Bakersfield; his aunt and uncle, Judy and Tom Walters of Morro Bay; his very special cousins Erin and Julia Walters. He is also survived by his great-uncles and aunts, Tom and Betty Holson and Joe and Grace Kleindienst, along with a host of cousins and other relatives. In addition, he is survived by his godparents, Susan and Mike Hughes of Lake Isabella and their children Laina and Anthony, his very special friend.

Whenever you think of Jake, think of the free spirit, one who was always planning something funny, no matter where he was.

In lieu of flowers, please contact Kern Valley High School (379-2611) for scholarship information in Jake's name.

Services were held Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Wofford Heights. Graveside services immediately followed at Kern River Valley Cemetery. A celebration of Jake's life was held at the Family Life Center in Wofford Heights. Services were entrusted to the care of Lake Isabella Valley Mortuary.
