Martin Skiles, 86, of West Caln, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara J. Wagner Skiles with whom he shared 15 years of marriage and his first wife the late Doris M. Skiles who died in 1998.

Born on the family farm in West Caln, he was the son of the late James and Helen M. Townsley Skiles.

Marty was an area resident all his life and a 1943 graduate of the Scott High School in Coatesville. He was self employed as a farmer and butcher. He was also owner and operator of the former Skiles Food Mart in Parkesburg. He faithfully served, for 34 years, as auditor for West Caln Township.

Marty was a member of the Purebred Dexter Cattle Assoc., the Brandywine Valley Assoc. and St. John's Episcopal Church. He was also a life member of the Sadsburyville Fire Co. and the Waterloo Boys Two Cylinder Club of S.E. Penna.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by one son Douglas C. Skiles of West Caln, stepson John Cholminsky of West Chester, two grandchildren and three siblings; Florence Johnson of Coatesville, James Skiles of Charleston, SC and Frances Gilfillan of Gap. He was preceded in death by a sister Rebecca Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11am from the St. John's Episcopal Church, 1520 W Kings Hwy., Gap, PA followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing which will be held at his home, 274 Skiles Rd., Parkesburg, PA on Monday, April 29th from 2 to 9pm and also Tuesday, April 30th from 9am to 9pm. There will be no viewing at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Brandywine Valley Assoc., 1760 Unionville-Wawaset Road, West Chester, PA 19382 or Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202 or Compassion International, Colorado Springs, CO 80997.
