Howard was graduated from Lehigh University in 1904 as a Engineer of metallurgy. He and his first wife, Janette Logan, were married at the Brick Presbyterian Church on 2 May 1905. He then worked for American Smelting & Refining Co. in the US, Mexico & Chile. Was divorced in 1908, then married his second wife Kelsey Percival Kitchel on 19 Jan 1910 in Newark,NJ. At noon of the same day they sailed aboard the steamer "Brazor" of the Mallory Line for Mexico. Later he was with the Chile Copper Co. Took up insurance sales and Genealogy work. Eventually publishing (100 copies) of a genealogy book entitled "The Bayles Families of Long Island And New Jersey..........." His cousin, Frederick Phinney Bayles, (my Grandfather) assisted with much of the research work.
Howard's parents were James Copper Bayles and Ianthe Green, both of New York City. He and his second wife Kelsey Kitchel had four children Beatrice,(born In Antofagasta, Chile and died there about 10 months later) Hugh, Mary and Frank.
