The Heavenly Call of God
"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning…" Psalm 30:5

During the twilight of Friday, April 19, 2013, Reverend Dennis C. Brock answered the heavenly call of God from labor to reward—and entered into eternal joy and rest. He was surrounded by his loving family and ministering angels at his home in Kingstree, South Carolina. Today, we rejoice as we celebrate his life as a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, educator and awesome man of God.

The Son
Reverend Brock is the son of the late James Dennis and Lila Mae Brock of Greenville, South Carolina.

As the first son of the Brock Family, he was set for his ministry call from God when he entered the world. "...Being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the council of his own will." Ephesians 1:11

The Family Man
Reverend Dennis C. Brock was joined in Holy Matrimony forty three years ago to the former Carrie Elizabeth Curry of Kingstree, South Carolina. Together, they were blessed to rear three children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, Dennis II, Brian and Christiann.

The Educator
Rev. Brock was a 1966 graduate of Sterling High School, Greenville, South Carolina. He continued his education at Morris College, Sumter, South Carolina, where he received the Bachelor of Arts Degree (1970) majoring in Social Studies. He conducted further studies towards a Masters degree at the University of South Carolina and South Carolina State University. His teaching career spanned over twenty-nine years ranging from elementary to secondary education as a teacher of social studies, driver's education and also served as basketball and football coach. He taught at Lane Consolidated Elementary School, Williamsburg, Williamsburg-Blakely, C.E. Murray, and Kingstree, Sr. High Schools.

Community Leader
Pastor Brock served his community and his country in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of many civic and professional organizations, such as former chairman of Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Williamsburg County First Steps, President, Williamsburg County Morris College Alumni Chapter, NAACP, Williamsburg County Mentoring Program, Williamsburg County Retired Teachers' Association, Past Grand Master of Kings James Lodge # 25, the American Legion, Town of Kingstree Planning Commission, Ministers Against Violence Alliance, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Chairman of the Homecoming and Brotherhood Union.

The Man of God
Reverend Brock joined Mountain View Baptist Church, Greenville, South Carolina, at an early age. Later he joined Union F.W. Baptist Church, Kingstree, South Carolina, where he received his calling in 1979. His initial sermon was preached on the fourth Sunday in February, 1980 to the attending congregation, family, visitors and friends. He went on to become the Associate Pastor of Union Freewill Baptist Church, where he taught Bible Study, Sunday School and also initiated a Prison Ministry. He continued his study of theology and Christian education at the Morris College School of Religion. He later received the Master's of Theology degree form the Liberty Hill Seminary School of Religion, Lynchburg, Virginia.

Reverend Brock was installed as Pastor of the Greater St. Paul Church, Johnsonville, South Carolina on the second Sunday in March, 1992. under his leadership, he established the youth ministry and missionary ministry and led the church through a church renovation project during his five years of service at Greater St. Paul.

Following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Brock was installed as Pastor, on the second Sunday in July, 1997, at the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, Alcolu, South Carolina. Under his leadership, membership increased and many were saved according to Acts 2:47: "Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." His tenure has spanned seventeen years, during which a new sanctuary, offices and renovations were made to the church to the glory of God.

Reverend Brock leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Carrie of the home; three children, Dennis II of the home, Brian (Dr. Shayla) of Bowie, MD and Christiann of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, Sarai and DeAubre' Brock; a loving sister, Lillian B. Flemming (Rev. Johnandad) of Greenville, SC; a sister-in-law, Minister Cassandra Beachum of Kingstree, SC; nieces, Yolanda Denise Gooseby of Philadelphia, PA and Tonjalyn Cokley (Rev. John) of Orangeburg, SC; nephews, Anthony Gooseby of Greenville, SC; Davit Gooseby (Venika) of Fayetteville, NC, Johnadad Melvin Flemming of Greenville, SC, Emmanuel Flemming (Renee) of Fort Benning, GA, Rodrecus A. Flemming of Greenville, SC, and Ranando Flemming of Charleston, SC; along with many loving cousins, extended family and dear friends.
