Spc. James E. Marshall of Tulsa, Oklahoma was an only child, and he graduated in 2002 from Central High School in Tulsa, where he played alto saxophone in the school band and also took karate lessons. James was a fun-loving person and was always willing to help wherever he could. As a child in a community karate program, he was determined to be the best. He didn't know how to quit. He joined the Army July 25, 2002. Though he was a world away, James remembered to send a dozen pink roses to his mom for Mother's Day. He even called to make sure they arrived. Hours later, Pam learned that her son had died. He was killed along with another soldier when their Humvee hit an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was only 19.
