Elmer Rose Stanford, 90, of Chetek, Wis., died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, Wis.

He was born to John “Jack” & Kitty (Rapley) Stanford on May 13, 1914, north of Chetek. He attended school in Chetek and at the age of 14, moved to Eau Claire, where he graduated from Memorial High School and went to one year of college in Eau Claire. On October 24, 1933, he married Marjorie Traxler in Eau Claire. She passed away in 1981, due to cancer. He then married Mable (Reifenauer) Neubauer on October 30, 1982, at Chetek. He was employed at Presto for 26 years; moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1960, and worked for John Deere for a year and then went back to work for Viking Pump in Cedar Falls, Iowa, until his retirement at age 62. He moved back to Chetek for the rest of his life. Elmer loved to fish and enjoyed going deer hunting. He also enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel of Chetek; one son, Clifford (Alice) of Birchwood; one daughter, Debra Flick of Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Glen (Barbara) Neubauer of Chippewa Falls and Duane (Friend-Mary) Neubauer of Iowa; one step-daughter, Kathie (Friend-John) Cole of Glendale, Ariz.; seven step-grandchildren; 22 step-great grandchildren; four step-great-great grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Stanford of Eau Claire; half-sister, Jackey Storlie of Wis.; half-brother, John (Judy) Stanford of New Auburn; two brothers-in-law, Nel (Kay) Reifenauer of Eau Claire and Erv (Ruby) Reifenauer of Mechanicsville, Md.; three sisters-in-law, Esther Metzenabauer of Chippewa Falls, Marie Hanke of Eau Claire and Maxine Anderson of Wausau; special niece, Terrie Hanke of Eau Claire and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Kitty (Rapley) Stanford; wife, Marjorie (1981); one sister, Ethel; and one step-sister, Betty Bahr.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 11: 00 a.m. at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastors Keith Ruehlow and Gerald Hibbard officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Chetek, Wis.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek, and one hour prior to service at the church.
