Religious Leader. Known as "Canada's Johnny Appleseed," he established first permanent missionary settlement in the Okanagan Valley, which is now Canada's premier tree fruit growing area, near Kelowna in 1859. He planted the first fruit trees there, and his Oblate missionary served scattered communities for 30 years.
